Ho, Gaardians!
We have some big plans afoot, and with it some big news. Beardsgaard is about to get a lot bigger. The more the merrier of course, but better than that, this embiggening is going to make all of your lives a whole lot easier.
(Note: this post has been updated as of October 2016, because things always be changin’ – that’s life, folks)
By early next year we’re going to be up to 6 barbers, 2 front deskers and a one-lady corporate office, with 63 opening hours per week. Hold on to your butts and keep reading for all the details.
New Characters!
The Jesus – Bringing us back up to four full-strength chairs is Jesus, a quiet and meticulous craftsman who loves skateboarding, nature, and the music of the 50s-70s. He doesn’t talk much while cutting, but the farther he gets into the cut, the bigger his smile gets. We like that in a barber. He’s available for walk-ins four days a week.
The Tank – With Shop Youth Evan back in high school Vinc (still said like Vince, he just thinks he’s cool or something) is taking over the desk on Saturdays. We’ll be luring him over to full time once those hours expand, and glad to have him we are, because he might be the next biggest true blue nerd here next to Beardsmith and Blademaiden themselves.
The Experienced Noobs – Two other barbers, one from Texas, the other from California (each with 5-6 years behind the chair) are also expected to join us sometime in between December and spring 2017. We know, we’re flabbergasted too! All great adventures start with a journey, it is said, and we are so glad they have decided to adventure with us.
Barber Dutch, the California fella, came out for a couple of awesome days in September and looks like he will be joining us full time come spring, but the Texas dood’s timeline is still a little up in the air (looking like December 2016.) Moving cross country (with a family in tow), license transfers and the like can be a little squishy on one’s timeline.
New Hours!
How will we fit 6 barbers in 4 chairs you ask? By extending hours and working shifts! Once everyone is here, we will be extending our opening hours to 9-8 Monday-Friday and 9-5 on Saturday. Huzzah, more normal people after work hours! We’ll likely open up Mondays before we expand hours, but both are in the cards.
The Rub
So while that is exciting and all, it presents a few problems. October is nearly booked up and people are clamoring for their holiday appointments already. But with the question of when precisely the new barbers will arrive, we are super hesitant to set too much in stone yet. So here’s what we’re going to do.
- The Sorting Hat opens a new month of availability on the 1st of each new month, three months out after currently open barber’s appointments. So on September 1st, the Sorting Hat will be open from December-February, in October January-March will be open, etc.
- Jesus is open for walk-ins daily, the four days a week he’s here, with Scott taking the 5th day. We have discontinued Walken Wednesday, because with daily walk-ins, we don’t need it any more!
- Scott is what we’re calling a Short Order Barber now, with appointments open one week from the current date.
- Tyler and Amanda, our Long Range Barbers, will be opened up for November on September 1st, but with slightly different hours than usual to work around the intended schedules of the upcoming barbers. As soon as we extend our hours, more appointments will be made available.
So what we’re saying is, if you can’t get your holiday appointments with your intended barber on your first shot, there are so many more appointments that will be added a bit down the road. Remember, you can make appointments both on your desktop and on the app (just search Beardsgaard Barbers).
There may be a few growing pains, but you wanted more, and we’re giving it as hard as we can. Bear with us through this spectacularly exciting time and we’ll all pop out the other side of the wormhole bigger, better, faster and stronger than ever before.
