This weekend was a doozy for the Beardsgaards. On Sunday, Natalie received a telephone call from the legendary Richie Finney, founder and proprietor of Captain Fawcett himself.
If you are unfamiliar with Captain Fawcett, it is one of the most revered heritage men’s grooming brands in the world, boasting a 100-year-old moustache wax recipe (created by the real-life inspiration for the character of Indiana Jones) and a beard oil that has graced the faces of both Ricki Hall and the cast of the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.
A few years ago Natalie heard that the dwarven biker king was in the Midwest and Facebook-stalked him to attempt to convince him to stop by the shop she was working in at the time. To her great surprise, he did. And he smelled fantastic, which was to be expected.
She was delighted to find that he was a top shelf nerd as well, and a true meeting of hirsute-directed minds happened. We have since opened our shop and begun carrying his stellar line of Captain Fawcett products, which fly off the shelves at an alarming rate.
Although the Beardsgaard and the Captain have been in some contact since then, receiving a phone call from the man himself is a bit of a big deal. Blademaiden might have looked like the Lord of the Dance while taking that phone call, sitting still was not an option.
You see, the Captain (and Richie) were and are intrepid explorers and adventurers of the highest class, both personally, as a company, and in helping others do the same. In that spirit, Captain Fawcett is helping sponsor his chum Amit’s expedition, kayaking 2300 miles down the Mississippi River.
He and his lady are going to be going unshowered for weeks in a 2 1/2 month trip to raise money and awareness for the British Exploring Society, a charity devoted to the helping young people on journeys of personal development and flailing about in the wilderness.
But first, Amit needed to be properly “Fawcetted.”
So who you gonna call? Hell, us apparently!
Here’s what happened:
We were overjoyed to be able to do our small part in getting Amit ready for his trip, and coming to the aid of the Captain.
