Beards & Facial Hair

Cut of the Week / Dwarf Beard

May 15, 2015 By //  by Tyler the Beardsmith

Every day there are all sorts of haircuts walking out of our doors, some simple everyday cuts, and some a bit more dapper, and some where our clients let us pull out all the stops. For those who want to know what we REALLY do here.

The Service: Dwarf Beard

The Barber: Tyler
The Story:

The first time this burly creature meandered into our shop, he was wearing a top hat. When you enter this shop wearing a damn top hat, it is very obvious you came to the right place. Especially with all that beard to work with.

A super smooth straight razor head shave, a bit of reining in of the side beard, and a twist of mustache wax later, and he experienced the cut/shave/style trifecta of what we do here, even with not a hair on his head.

Nothing but the best for a beard this dwarven, Captain Fawcett Private Stock Beard Oil and Sandalwood Moustache Wax. Nothing less will do.

Called to Adventure by the Captain {Video}

May 6, 2015 By //  by The Beardsgaards

This weekend was a doozy for the Beardsgaards. On Sunday, Natalie received a telephone call from the legendary Richie Finney, founder and proprietor of Captain Fawcett himself.

If you are unfamiliar with Captain Fawcett, it is one of the most revered heritage men’s grooming brands in the world, boasting a 100-year-old moustache wax recipe (created by the real-life inspiration for the character of Indiana Jones) and a beard oil that has graced the faces of both Ricki Hall and the cast of the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit.

Ricki Hall Booze & Baccy

A few years ago Natalie heard that the dwarven biker king was in the Midwest and Facebook-stalked him to attempt to convince him to stop by the shop she was working in at the time. To her great surprise, he did. And he smelled fantastic, which was to be expected.

Cut of the Week / Dastardly Dapper

April 17, 2015 By //  by Tyler the Beardsmith Leave a Comment

Every day there are all sorts of haircuts walking out of our doors, some simple everyday cuts, and some a bit more dapper, and some where our clients let us pull out all the stops. For those who want to know what we REALLY do here.

The Service: Dastardly Dapper

The Barber: Tyler
The Story:

Elwood here is a character of the highest order with his sharp parted contour (styled with Prospectors Pomade), Musketeer-inspired facial dalliance and Machiavellian countenance.

A lot of fantastic cuts walk out of this shop, but most of the time we are on to the next client before we have a chance to take photos.

So, to actually capture these great styles (with decent lighting), we have started a roster of hair models. None are “models” for sure (although ever so many of our clients have a great look to them), these Zoolanders are pulled from our existing clients.

Spring Cleanup {Video}

April 8, 2015 By //  by The Beardsgaards

Holy balls, it’s going to be in the mid 70’s tomorrow! With raging thunderstorms! Whatever, it’s SPRING!!!

And now that the gentlemen and vagabonds on the river here are feeling so sproingy, some of them are wanting to lighten things up a bit in the facial area. But take heed, if you bounce off to the bathroom with sharp implements on a whim, you’re gonna have a bad time.

Pizza French Fry

Instead, get thee to a barbershop and get it done right. If you’re feeling the need to lighten the load, you have three main options for barberly facial deforestation.

Cut of the Week / Portland Blues

March 27, 2015 By //  by Tyler the Beardsmith Leave a Comment

Every day there are all sorts of haircuts walking out of our doors, some simple everyday cuts, and some a bit more dapper, and some where our clients let us pull out all the stops. For those who want to know what we REALLY do here.

The Legend: Portland Blues

The Barber: Tyler
The Story:

This fine fellow and his wee towheaded moppet were quite the pair. Little dude didn’t get a cut that day, but dad had more than enough hair for both of them.

The style he came in asking for was the good old Arthur Shelby from Peaky Blinders. Shelby-ish, at least, he wasn’t looking to go quite that extreme.

Keeping most of the length on top and using his extremely defined natural part, we gave him plenty of long and plenty of short, easily slicked with some green Reuzel Grease.

The beard didn’t need too much work, but the lighter growth toward the top of the cheeks lent itself particularly well to a nautical style, with its square shape, lean cheeks, and full but not bulky mustache.

A lot of fantastic cuts walk out of this shop, but most of the time we are on to the next client before we have a chance to take photos.

So, to actually capture these great styles (with decent lighting), we have started a roster of hair models. None are “models” for sure (although some have been a curiously Pavlovian effect on our lady followers), these Zoolanders are pulled from our existing clients.

Cut of the Week / Sweatervest Fisticuffs

The Legend: Sweatervest Fisticuffs

The Barber: Tyler
The Story:

Some of our clients have their own style going on in spades. This one is an old timey boxer who has found himself a modern-day preppy bodybuilder. Or something. Either way, we like it.

Just a good old fashioned executive contour and handlebar moustache, like you do, styled with green some buttery hair grease, and of course Captain Fawcett Moustache Wax for the lip duster.

Cut of the Week / Basterd & Prospector

February 15, 2015 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Every day there are all sorts of haircuts walking out of our doors, some simple everyday cuts, and some a bit more dapper, and some where our clients let us pull out all the stops. For those who want to know what we REALLY do here.

The Cut: Basterd & Prospector

The Barber: Natalie
The Story:

Dan’s head is pretty much everything a barber could ask for. Perfect hair and beard, thick and and full but not too much, with that coveted coppery color change from scalp to face hair.

He likes to keep it pretty simple, just a good solid haircut and beard, nothing fancy. But at Beardsgaard, that by no means equals basic. This combo is just the ticket.

The Basterd is a Contour cut at its foundation with slightly rougher blends and encouragement of natural texture on the top. This one was groomed with…nothing! We were going to put some product in there, but he hadn’t washed his hair that day, and sometimes that is the best product.

The Prospector beard is a full and blocky shape with the corners knocked down and the mustache allowed to lift naturally away from the beard. For a beard that bloody magnificent, nothing less than Captain Fawcett Private Stock Beard Oil and Moustache Wax will do, so he smells as good as he looks.

Cut of the Week / Pompadour

December 21, 2014 By //  by Natalie the Blademaiden Leave a Comment

Every day there are all sorts of haircuts walking out of our doors, some simple everyday cuts, and some a bit more dapper, and some where our clients let us pull out all the stops. For those who want to know what we REALLY do here.

The Cut: Pompadour

The Barber: Natalie
The Story:

Quite a few men stress about going grey, but as you will notice in a large amount of the haircuts we post, we think that’s just stupid.

That silver, snow, gunmetal and slate create beautiful streaks and shading, it’s like you’re a living black and white photo. That’s awesome. Embrace that shit.

Get a great haircut (like this classic pomp), maybe grow a badass but neatly groomed beard, and if you’re already a rugged, badass biker, all the better.

This is one of those heads that doesn’t need much work, because it’s pretty much perfect as it is. Tight and square on the sides, neatly tapered neck, only cut the top where it connects to the side, slicked up and back with red Reuzel Pomade for easy height.

The secret of a great beard like this is a light and simple lining with a bit of gentle tapering around the back jawline and neck. Neat but natural is the key.
