As our barbers will tell you, we go HARD with training. This past weekend we traveled all the way down to Chicago on Sunday for a shave demo at Joe’s Barber Shop, and Monday the crew spent 8 hours training with Professional Salon Concepts in Joliet, learning more about Davines and Naturaltech.
But this night was all about Joe’s, at the monthly Chicago Barbers Association meetup, organized by Joe Jr of Joe’s Barber Shop and Kirk Merchant of Andre’s Barber Shop. Sometimes it’s just hanging with some Chicago-area brothers and sisters of the smock, and sometimes everyone gathers in a more purposeful way, to share some long-practiced skills.
Everybody at this particular demo was lucky indeed, for they got to see Tomas Perez at work, who is a quiet, meticulous barber who makes this shit look sooooo easy. With 20 years at Merchant & Rhoades (yes Kirk Merchant is the son of that Merchant), one of the most high end barbershops in the world (and a Chicago institution), we got to see a master at work.
Much was learned by all, many laughs were had, and there was much rejoicing.
