At Beardsgaard, we pride ourselves on stocking our shelves with the very best products from small, independent companies, in many cases local, as well as the rare, hard-to-find heritage brands in addition to carefully selected professional haircare.
From the Apothecary is a regular feature on the blog that gives you the barber low-down on our shelf favorites.
Midwest Beard and Moustache Company is a local brand from right here in the Fox River Valley that makes some beautiful beard oils and balms. They hit the shelves this January and we can barely keep it on there.
Keep reading to find out what makes it so special, and for the real reason you’re here: the scents.
Both the oils and balms are notable for being a base composed heavily of Jojoba oil, which most closely mimics your skin’s natural oils. It is also one of the pricier base oils, but these little 1/2 oz vials keeps it affordable to try out all of the scents. About those!
- The Naturalist: Unscented is a nice option if you like are scent-sensitive, wear cologne, or just like to mix up different balms and oils, i.e. unscented balm and lots of different scented oils or vice-versa.
- The Gentleman: Whiskey and Smoke is a heady blend that worry not, does not smell like you after a long weekend. It’s classy as fuck, but not too proper.
- The Headshop: Even if most have them get regular haircuts nowadays, this town is still full of hippies at heart. Smells like your favorite record shop.
- The Lumberjack: Wood, wood and more wood. Goes well with the flannel that everyone is wearing right now (not to be a lumbersexual, it’s just freaking cold out), and reminds you of times and places in the world where things grow and are alive. One day spring will come, right?
