July 9, 2015 By //  by The Beardsgaards

Davines

When we opened this shop, we had a small selection of some of our favorite products on the shelves of some cabinets we picked up at a garage sale. That was fine in the beginning, but before long those shelves were overflowing, and we knew we would have to build a dedicated shop space.

Hey, you know how we never do things in half measures around here? And sometimes go way the hell overboard? Yeah, we didn’t just throw up some shelves. You know how it goes around here.

Welcome to Beardsgaard, folks. Now we have a map. On it will go shelves, and on those shelves will go the products you know and love, with plenty of room for new ones. For that part, we need your help.

Mural Wall

This is the front wall in its current state, perhaps 1/3 of the way along, half way done with the mural, and another third for building the shelves. This mural is designed and painted by Beardsgaard’s resident artist, Brian Busch. Yes, we seem to have metaphorically put a ring on it.

The map is divided up into three kingdoms: Manegaard, for the hair product, Beardenheim, for the beardstuffs, and Shavehalla, for the shave gear.

When we bring on new products, now in the future, we will be polling all of you on Facebook and in the newsletter (sign up in the sidebar or at the bottom of this post) to see what all of you are clamoring for.

Let us introduce you to some of the top brands and products that are contenders for upcoming additions, and take you on a little tour of the map.

Manegard

Manegard
Welcome to Manegard, home of the hair product. It lies on the western edge of Beardsgaard, and is home to three realms of Norse mythology:

Alfheim, home of the light elves (on the border of the other realms for trade purposes, of course), Swartelheim, home of the dark elves, and Vanaheim, where the old gods dwell. It is overall a very Elvish region, so there is lots of good hair around these parts. Over on the coast you will find Pomme Bay, where we will keep the pomades.

Beardenheim

Beardenheim lies on the eastern edge of Beardsgaard, and is home to our beard products, as well as three more realms.

Jotunheim, home of the giants, Nidavellir, home of the dwarves, and Midgard (in which is the small village of Mustacheshire), where the humans dwell. It is a very beardy region.

Shavehalla

With several recent, very public examples of the c With several recent, very public examples of the continuation of police brutality in America, it's hard not to feel helpless. And frustrated. And tired. But just like actively being anti-racist isn't an option, neither is taking a break. There are countless grassroots organizations that are doing the difficult work of changing legislation, hearts and minds every day. Even when the big stories have faded, and the cameras have left. They don't stop when they're tired, because it's not an option. So what can you do?

First: donate to those tireless organizations that benefit people of color and marginalized individuals.
Second: outwardly show your solidarity. Did our solidarity with Black Lives Matter lead to us losing clients, and aggression towards us as a business? Yes. Do we care about that? No. Because for every loud person that yelled at us for our BLM fist and pride flag in the window, there were people that saw it as a head nod that said, "We see you. We're with you."

People passed our shop and felt safe, and that feeling of home and safety is why Beardsgaard is the shop that it is. We will continue to show solidarity because at the end of the day, everyone deserves to have basic human rights. People deserve to be able to sleep in their own bed, walk down the street with a sandwich, talk on the phone to their mom, unlock their own front door, hold a bag of skittles, sit on a couch and eat ice cream…

So while our Wear It For Good section has grown in the past year, all of our designs are still up and all the profits being donated to different charities and organizations.

Donate and show your solidarity with our Wear It For Good section of our #webshoppe {Link in Bio}.
