At Beardsgaard, we pride ourselves on stocking our shelves with the very best products from small, independent companies, in many cases local, as well as the rare, hard-to-find heritage brands in addition to carefully selected professional haircare.
From the Apothecary is a regular feature on the blog that gives you the barber low-down on our shelf favorites.
Prospectors Pomade is the newest addition to what we are sure will be a massive pomade stash. Hailing from California (where else did you think it would come from with a name like that?), this is quickly becoming one of our favorite products.
Water-based formulas come in many stripes – “hard hold” varieties that seem pretty close to a gel and end up hard, gummy types that goo your hair into unnatural shapes, light holds that don’t hold up well.
Prospectors has a relatively high water content and a base of hemp oil (easily absorbed by hair, so it’s super conditioning too), so it is great for compacting down big hair, as oil-based pomades do so well.
And listen, we’re not normally suckers for a pretty face, but DAMN. Isn’t she gorgeous?
It is beautifully combable all day (even the next day), and because it is such a soft pomade, it really lets the natural texture of thick hair shine. Because if you have a lot of hair, your hair is the hold.
And at $15 for a 4 oz tin (just like our old pal Reuzel), it’s an affordable way to keep your style right.
A fresh batch hit on the shelves just in time for the weekend. Come and get it, greasers!
