Holy balls, it’s going to be in the mid 70’s tomorrow! With raging thunderstorms! Whatever, it’s SPRING!!!
And now that the gentlemen and vagabonds on the river here are feeling so sproingy, some of them are wanting to lighten things up a bit in the facial area. But take heed, if you bounce off to the bathroom with sharp implements on a whim, you’re gonna have a bad time.
Instead, get thee to a barbershop and get it done right. If you’re feeling the need to lighten the load, you have three main options for barberly facial deforestation.
Beard Overhaul
Beard trims (these are just our terms, don’t take this as gospel everywhere) are simply cleaning up the edges, taking a little bulk off the sides, and detailing the mustache. These trims take place pretty frequently, anywhere from multiple times per week to every month or so with your regular haircut.
Beard overhauls are when you’re cutting all of the hairs and/or taking off a good amount of bulk. The way we do it, with a good slathering of deep conditioner, an application of steamy hot towels and a full upside down haircut for your face reshapes the layers and gets the winter-damaged ends gone – it’s like pressing the reset button for your beard.
Style Change
Being this close to a giant Harley dealership, and in such beautiful, prime riding country, beards are always going to be a thing around here, even after the “trend” fades. But as your beard is a continuous resource, scaling it back, changing the shape, style, or even taking it down to a partial beard, goatee or other style does not invalidate your man card, if there ever was such a ridiculous thing.
The possibilities really are endless. Here are a just a couple of shorter and partial beards that have come out of our chairs lately. But beware. Attempting this yourself at home can go really badly. Mistakes have been made.
Here we will reshape that face creature properly, and shape it into an assortment of other entertaining styles on the way down. And take pictures if you want. All in good fun. For those sorts of services though, make sure you call for your appointment so we can allot a little extra time.
Full Shave
How satisfying is it to clear down a winter beard to a clean shave yourself at home? No. Not very, unless you’re really up on your wet shaving technique.
But if you go to a barber you know and trust (or, you know, us), we will remove that beard in style and in a gloriously old school manner. Because if you’re going to shave, you might as well have someone else do it…with a straight razor.
