Beards

Introducing • Adventure Packs • From the Apothecary

June 19, 2018 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

From the moment we launched our first products, a set of five beard oils in scents that echoed the seasons we get so heartily in this, the Middle West, we knew one day we would need to make a sampler pack.

Primarily because everyone kept telling us to make one. Then we made beard balms and waxes, in all the beard oil scents, plus the unscented Deepwell. The clamor for sample packs grew louder.

And now, inhabitants of the Realm, it is done, our River Peak sampler packs are out in the world. Except we called them “Adventure Packs” because it sounded cooler. And you can, like, adventure through the seasons or some such.

Tricky Tricks for Barbers • Cowlicks & Patches {Video}

October 30, 2017 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Barber demo videos are great, but what about when you encounter some hair that doesn’t fit the mold? In this series, the barbers of Beardsgaard are going to show you some tricky tricks for barbers to make your life behind the chair a little easier.

Big, full beards are great to work on, but what about a patchy beard that changes density, texture and direction all over the damn place? Alex, one of our barbers, has just such a beard. He’s never going to have the face of a mountain man, but we can keep it well-shaped, respectable, and keep it within its appointed bounds.

Beard & Mustache Competitions with the Captain

September 29, 2017 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Legendary Captain Fawcett founder Richie Finney will be on hand for the pre-launch signing of their new book, “The Gentleman’s Guide to Grooming: The Quintessential Handbook for the Modern Man” on Wednesday, October 4th from 7-9 PM. There will also be competitions and prizes aplenty. Join us.

October 4th is going to be an evening of fun and delights, but there will also be a rousing competition. Two, in fact!

Beardsgaard is known for the legendary beards and mustaches we get the pleasure of attending, and Captain Fawcett is known for keeping them looking tip-top and smelling like tales of far flung adventures. When you bring the founders of both together at the nerdiest barbershop this side of Midgard, something like a beard (and mustache) competition is bound to happen.

Keep reading for all the finer points of the happenings, as well as what the winners will be taking home, and see the full event post here.

The Captain of the Gaard Book Signing

September 21, 2017 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Legendary Captain Fawcett founder Richie Finney will be on hand for the pre-launch signing of their new book, “The Gentleman’s Guide to Grooming: The Quintessential Handbook for the Modern Man” on Wednesday, October 4th from 7-9 PM. Join us.

Captain Fawcett, the man and the grooming brand, are legend. As is the man who calls himself The Captain’s Right Hand man, Richie Finney. It’s all quite tongue-in-cheek, you see, as the actual historical Lieutenant Colonel Fawcett (no relation) disappeared without a trace in the Amazon in 1925. They even made a movie about it.

While no one knows for sure what happened to Percy Fawcett the man, the brand Captain Fawcett is the realm of Mr. Finney, and renowned the world over, from the average gloriously hirsute fellow to the sets of movie and TV productions as fantastical as Lord of the Rings.

And he’s coming to Beardsgaard for a once-in-a-lifetime event, a pre-launch signing of his new book (US release 11/7). That Blademaiden happens to be in. You will not want to miss this. Read on for all the particulars.

Ask Your Barber • Beard Washing

September 18, 2017 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

How often should I wash my beard?

We’re so, so sorry. We needed a header image, and Shopkeep Joey was around. Making that face.

This is one of the most common questions we get on beard care, and as with most of the answers to other beard-related questions, the answer is a rousing, “it depends.”

Like the hair on your head, your skin and the oils it produces are designed by your body to be the main method of both cleansing and conditioning your follicles. Beard hair tend to be heftier than the hair on your head, and as such it usually needs more moisture and less washing than head hair. But how often heavily depends on your specific situation.

Read on.

A New Dawn in the Apothecary

March 13, 2017 By //  by Natalie the Blademaiden

We opened Beardsgaard in September of 2014 with but a few product lines on our shelves. We grew our offerings organically, ordering up at every opportunity, but from the early days, we had a burning desire to create products that fit our exact specifications.

And so, in September of 2015, River Peak Apothecary was born, with a litter of five beard oils. Now, what was a good-smelling lump of raw ore has been polished until it shines.

See the new face of the Apothecary.

It’s Terminal (Beard Length) – Let’s Talk

June 7, 2016 By //  by The Beardsgaards

While we believe beards of all shapes and sizes are awesome, length is the end all be all goal for a lot of dudes. When it comes to potential beard length, there are two schools of belief:

Terminal Beard Length Gallery

  1. Your beard just keeps growing, and with enough time and patience, any man who can fill in a decent beard can get competition-big.
  2. Beards at some point will reach a terminal length and stop growing.

So which is it? Not to burst any bubbles, but it’s not the first one. And the second one comes with a slew of caveats. Let’s talk terminal. And science.

Keep reading for our barberly secret to a bigger beard…

Blademaiden of Beardsgaard’s Scumbassador Submission {Video}

June 4, 2016 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Somehow we have never gotten around to producing a full-on haircut and/or beard demo on film. But when the scumbags of Schorem and Reuzel put out a call for potential Scumbassador educators, we knew the time had come.

Let us present: an Executive Contour haircut and huge fucking beard. There may also be dragons. {Update: totally made it. Say hello to one of the first Reuzel Scumbassadors}

Cut of the Week / Hairy Caray

July 17, 2015 By //  by Natalie the Blademaiden

Every day there are all sorts of haircuts walking out of our doors, some simple everyday cuts, and some a bit more dapper, and some where our clients let us pull out all the stops. For those who want to know what we REALLY do here.

The Service: Hairy Caray

The Barber: Natalie
The Story:

We love a good head shave/beard combo around here, because we get to work on big old face creatures and straight razor a large portion of skin at the same time.

Sascha is one of the now 64 fellas in the ranks of dudes who have signed up to Hansel it up in front of the camera and we tell these brave souls to wear something that is contrasting to their hair color (dark beard against a dark shirt doesn’t really show up on camera), and that makes them feel awesome.

And he does look like he feel awesome. Because while he waited to be called to modelesque duty, that beard got BIG. And we didn’t take it down much either, just reined in the puff on the sides, gave it some shape, and let that natural thick, wavy texture do its thing.
