Blademaiden Cuts a Pompadour {Livestream}

May 18, 2018 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

The folks on YouTube have been asking for more haircut videos, and that gets tough when you’re open 6 days a week. There’s Sunday, but that’s the day everything ELSE gets scheduled into. So when Blademaiden realized she had one of her favorite heads in the chair, we did a livestream!

It was a bit impromptu, forgive the sound quality. We’ll get better at this “live” thing.

Tricky Tricks for Barbers • Pointy Mustaches {Video}

January 5, 2018 By //  by The Beardsgaards 1 Comment

Barber demo videos are great, but what about when you encounter some hair that doesn’t fit the mold? In this series, the barbers of Beardsgaard are going to show you some tricky tricks for barbers to make your life behind the chair a little easier.

Mustaches come in all shapes and sizes, but most are pretty easy to shape up. But what about those pointy ones that grow STRAIGHT OUT? Those types are pretty pokey to be on the other end of (just ask our shop manager/model’s wife).

But for barbers, cut it too long and it gets awkwardly pointy again real quick, but take off the slightest bit too much in the wrong place, and this crazy unforgiving mustache hair is going to look like it’s missing a chunk. So let’s make Vinc’s lovely wife a happy lady.

Tricky Tricks for Barbers • Cowlicks & Patches {Video}

Barber demo videos are great, but what about when you encounter some hair that doesn’t fit the mold? In this series, the barbers of Beardsgaard are going to show you some tricky tricks for barbers to make your life behind the chair a little easier.

Big, full beards are great to work on, but what about a patchy beard that changes density, texture and direction all over the damn place? Alex, one of our barbers, has just such a beard. He’s never going to have the face of a mountain man, but we can keep it well-shaped, respectable, and keep it within its appointed bounds.

Ask Your Barber • Beard Washing

September 18, 2017 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

How often should I wash my beard?

We’re so, so sorry. We needed a header image, and Shopkeep Joey was around. Making that face.

This is one of the most common questions we get on beard care, and as with most of the answers to other beard-related questions, the answer is a rousing, “it depends.”

Like the hair on your head, your skin and the oils it produces are designed by your body to be the main method of both cleansing and conditioning your follicles. Beard hair tend to be heftier than the hair on your head, and as such it usually needs more moisture and less washing than head hair. But how often heavily depends on your specific situation.

Read on.

How to ReWhip Melted Beard Butter {Video}

August 18, 2017 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Our beard butter is made with just butters and oils, and is a dreamy, creamy treat for your beard (or skin, great as a body butter too).

But without the beeswax that balms contain, it is rather heat sensitive. Depending on the climate or time of year, we cannot guarantee your beard butter will arrive unmelted.

But rather than cut off shipping of this product during the summer months, as some companies do, we’ll just show you how to bring a melted jar back to life!

Before & After Scumpadour {Video}

October 19, 2016 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

There’s only so much a barber can do when a client wants it short of the side, AND short on top. That’s usually the most basic of basic dudes haircut. Unless, that is, you want to get scummy.

This is the Scumpadour, or as it’s inventor, Schorem calls it, “what happens when you put a Pompadour, a Flattop and a Quiff in a room and let them get busy. And it’s a thing we really like cutting.

It’s Terminal (Beard Length) – Let’s Talk

June 7, 2016 By //  by The Beardsgaards

While we believe beards of all shapes and sizes are awesome, length is the end all be all goal for a lot of dudes. When it comes to potential beard length, there are two schools of belief:

Terminal Beard Length Gallery

  1. Your beard just keeps growing, and with enough time and patience, any man who can fill in a decent beard can get competition-big.
  2. Beards at some point will reach a terminal length and stop growing.

So which is it? Not to burst any bubbles, but it’s not the first one. And the second one comes with a slew of caveats. Let’s talk terminal. And science.

Keep reading for our barberly secret to a bigger beard…

Blademaiden of Beardsgaard’s Scumbassador Submission {Video}

June 4, 2016 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Somehow we have never gotten around to producing a full-on haircut and/or beard demo on film. But when the scumbags of Schorem and Reuzel put out a call for potential Scumbassador educators, we knew the time had come.

Let us present: an Executive Contour haircut and huge fucking beard. There may also be dragons. {Update: totally made it. Say hello to one of the first Reuzel Scumbassadors}

How to Wash Your Hair Like a Pro

February 11, 2015 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Listen, you have to wash your hair. And as an adult male, if you have to do something anyway, you might as well do it well.

Today your barbers spill their secrets on a very simple life task that most of us have been doing wrong, or at least ineffectively, our whole lives.

First, Don’t So Much

In our Winter is Coming / Gird Your Head post we talked about the best hair getting a little help from its friend sebum, otherwise known as your skin’s natural oils.

Giantsbane
Wildlings need a little work

The majority of winter hair woes are caused by the cold and dry air sucking moisture out of your hair. Your scalp produces oils to protect your hair, not to annoy you. It’s trying to help, so stop killing it every day with shampoo. Under normal circumstances, you should be washing your hair two or three times a week (those with thicker/longer hair don’t need to shampoo as often).
