Mustaches

Tricky Tricks for Barbers • Pointy Mustaches {Video}

January 5, 2018 By //  by The Beardsgaards 1 Comment

Barber demo videos are great, but what about when you encounter some hair that doesn’t fit the mold? In this series, the barbers of Beardsgaard are going to show you some tricky tricks for barbers to make your life behind the chair a little easier.

Mustaches come in all shapes and sizes, but most are pretty easy to shape up. But what about those pointy ones that grow STRAIGHT OUT? Those types are pretty pokey to be on the other end of (just ask our shop manager/model’s wife).

But for barbers, cut it too long and it gets awkwardly pointy again real quick, but take off the slightest bit too much in the wrong place, and this crazy unforgiving mustache hair is going to look like it’s missing a chunk. So let’s make Vinc’s lovely wife a happy lady.

Beard & Mustache Competitions with the Captain

September 29, 2017 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Legendary Captain Fawcett founder Richie Finney will be on hand for the pre-launch signing of their new book, “The Gentleman’s Guide to Grooming: The Quintessential Handbook for the Modern Man” on Wednesday, October 4th from 7-9 PM. There will also be competitions and prizes aplenty. Join us.

October 4th is going to be an evening of fun and delights, but there will also be a rousing competition. Two, in fact!

Beardsgaard is known for the legendary beards and mustaches we get the pleasure of attending, and Captain Fawcett is known for keeping them looking tip-top and smelling like tales of far flung adventures. When you bring the founders of both together at the nerdiest barbershop this side of Midgard, something like a beard (and mustache) competition is bound to happen.

Keep reading for all the finer points of the happenings, as well as what the winners will be taking home, and see the full event post here.

The Captain of the Gaard Book Signing

September 21, 2017 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

Legendary Captain Fawcett founder Richie Finney will be on hand for the pre-launch signing of their new book, “The Gentleman’s Guide to Grooming: The Quintessential Handbook for the Modern Man” on Wednesday, October 4th from 7-9 PM. Join us.

Captain Fawcett, the man and the grooming brand, are legend. As is the man who calls himself The Captain’s Right Hand man, Richie Finney. It’s all quite tongue-in-cheek, you see, as the actual historical Lieutenant Colonel Fawcett (no relation) disappeared without a trace in the Amazon in 1925. They even made a movie about it.

While no one knows for sure what happened to Percy Fawcett the man, the brand Captain Fawcett is the realm of Mr. Finney, and renowned the world over, from the average gloriously hirsute fellow to the sets of movie and TV productions as fantastical as Lord of the Rings.

And he’s coming to Beardsgaard for a once-in-a-lifetime event, a pre-launch signing of his new book (US release 11/7). That Blademaiden happens to be in. You will not want to miss this. Read on for all the particulars.

It’s Terminal (Beard Length) – Let’s Talk

June 7, 2016 By //  by The Beardsgaards

While we believe beards of all shapes and sizes are awesome, length is the end all be all goal for a lot of dudes. When it comes to potential beard length, there are two schools of belief:

Terminal Beard Length Gallery

  1. Your beard just keeps growing, and with enough time and patience, any man who can fill in a decent beard can get competition-big.
  2. Beards at some point will reach a terminal length and stop growing.

So which is it? Not to burst any bubbles, but it’s not the first one. And the second one comes with a slew of caveats. Let’s talk terminal. And science.

Keep reading for our barberly secret to a bigger beard…

Cut of the Week / Dastardly Dapper

April 17, 2015 By //  by Tyler the Beardsmith Leave a Comment

Every day there are all sorts of haircuts walking out of our doors, some simple everyday cuts, and some a bit more dapper, and some where our clients let us pull out all the stops. For those who want to know what we REALLY do here.

The Service: Dastardly Dapper

The Barber: Tyler
The Story:

Elwood here is a character of the highest order with his sharp parted contour (styled with Prospectors Pomade), Musketeer-inspired facial dalliance and Machiavellian countenance.

A lot of fantastic cuts walk out of this shop, but most of the time we are on to the next client before we have a chance to take photos.

So, to actually capture these great styles (with decent lighting), we have started a roster of hair models. None are “models” for sure (although ever so many of our clients have a great look to them), these Zoolanders are pulled from our existing clients.

Want to see the rest of our cut and beards? Check out our portfolio HERE.

Cut of the Week / Sweatervest Fisticuffs

Every day there are all sorts of haircuts walking out of our doors, some simple everyday cuts, and some a bit more dapper, and some where our clients let us pull out all the stops. For those who want to know what we REALLY do here.

The Legend: Sweatervest Fisticuffs

The Barber: Tyler
The Story:

Some of our clients have their own style going on in spades. This one is an old timey boxer who has found himself a modern-day preppy bodybuilder. Or something. Either way, we like it.

Just a good old fashioned executive contour and handlebar moustache, like you do, styled with green some buttery hair grease, and of course Captain Fawcett Moustache Wax for the lip duster.

So, to actually capture these great styles (with decent lighting), we have started a roster of hair models. None are “models” for sure (although some have been a curiously Pavlovian effect on our lady followers), these Zoolanders are pulled from our existing clients.

Cut of the Week / Little Verkerk

February 8, 2015 By //  by Tyler the Beardsmith Leave a Comment

Every day there are all sorts of haircuts walking out of our doors, some simple everyday cuts, and some a bit more dapper, and some where our clients let us pull out all the stops. For those who want to know what we REALLY do here.

The Legend: Little Verkerk

The Barber: Tyler
The Story:

This kid. His name is Phineas. He enjoys navy blazers, cowboy boots, and moustaches, although his is not in need of any wax. Because his lip duster is a stick on. We talked about scorpions and life. After his cut he asked his mom if he could have some money to buy “hair goo.” He picked the Reuzel Pomade.

Which is a no brainer, because due to the magic of the Batavia Triangle, his dad happens to be the guy behind the camera on our favorite hair demo videos ever. Suuuuper weird.

Cut of the Week / Handled Handlebar

The Mustache Style: Handled Handlebar

The Barber: Tyler
The Story:

While he came in with an already excellent mustache, Tyler got Evan here (who came bearing beer!) all shaved up perfect and lightly styled with some Captain Fawcett mustache wax.

He, along with so many others, had never ventured beyond the cheap and widely available mustache waxes that look, well, waxy. Evan, welcome to the world of the good stuff.

A Bearded Man’s Adventures in Nasal Mucus {Video}

November 6, 2014 By //  by The Beardsgaards Leave a Comment

The latest in Beardsmith Tyler’s “A Bearded Man’s Adventures in” doing everyday things that are a lot harder with a large mustache. He’ll show you how.

Beards & Dragons

Blowing your nose is a simple task. Except when you have a nose impediment like piercings or a mustache. While I can’t give you advice on the pierced nose-blow, I know a thing or two about having a mustache.

It took quite a bit of trial and error to be able to do it without making a horrifying mess of myself, so I will spare you the experimentation and show you how it is done.
