Hooray, my 31st birthday is tomorrow!
Hooray as in meh. 31 isn’t much of a birthday, and this is actually the first one in a long time I haven’t taken the day off work.

Instead, tomorrow I get up extra early, drive the little one out to my sister’s in Geneva for a sleepover day, and head back into the city to work. After work, I will likely be finishing up the Gaard newsletter. That’s about all that plans entail, and I am very much okay with that.
As the years roll by, birthdays become less and less important to me (although I am still hoping for a little cake and champagne after work). Presents are super unnecessary, and parties feel like social obligations more than fun for quiet people like myself.
Instead, I’m going to have a delightfully full Saturday as usual at the shop, maybe some wonderful clients decide to bring me coffee (I never say no to a good vanilla or caramel latte), and then home to crash because I am dead exhausted after a Saturday in the barbershop.
Today will be just as much fun at work as tomorrow, because there will be three birthday folks at the shop! Mercedez, our most stylish Rawr-ceptionist ever, and my coolest client ever, Herb. He’s coming in for a “whisker trimmin” today.
I love all of you equally, but no one will ever be as cool as Herb and his lovely wife (coordinating colors of the same jacket WHAT). 68 years of married bliss, these two, and they are delightful.
Off to work, dear friends, see you there this weekend!
